Our mission

  • To be a catalyst for positive social and environmental change in the interaction of climate, business, policy, and society
  • To work across institutional, market, government, organisational, community, and individual levels
  • To offer innovative and research-led solutions
  • To stimulate and contribute to key policy debates
  • To create and inspire changemakers for the future

Our impact

The Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability is generating the research, educational, and training opportunities to advance understanding of how businesses can best organise themselves to meet climate change and sustainability goals.

We use our research to create and inspire impact in the real-world. We have worked with businesses of all sizes; national governments in the US, Europe, Asia, the UK, and Scotland; multilateral organisations including the UN, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Commission; and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

For example, we have:

  • Developed a £1.5 million bank-wide climate transformation programme for NatWest Bank
  • Drawn attention to corporate green-washing and its effect on accounting standards and guidance
  • Contributed to the design of international carbon markets in Europe and Asia.

Our background

For almost 15 years the University of Edinburgh Business School had faculty dedicated to researching and teaching issues related to climate change and sustainability. This happened primarily through two flourishing research centres within the School: the Centre for Business and Climate Change (CBCC) and the Sustainable Business Initiative (SBI). With the rapid growth of this area in terms of faculty, students, and societal impact, we established the Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability (B-CCaS) to integrate these areas.
