Masters students Firdowsa Mohamed and Hyunji Kim recently completed scholarships with the MSCI Institute, a world-leading provider of investment analytics and indexes.
The MSCI Scholars Program supports research by master’s level students. The University of Edinburgh Business School is a partner in the Program, with successful students gaining access to mentorship, data, and analytical support from MSCI.
Firdowsa and Hyunji’s research explored how the use of carbon credits affects corporate performance. They showed that investors care more about the quality than the quantity of carbon credits companies retire, while for companies, the strategic value of carbon credits ties more closely to their role in sustainability strategies than to their stand-alone financial impact.
Even though the buyers' profiles were so different, they all aligned on high-quality credits as a signal to investors. As I now transition to BB Energy, this will be a key criterion for project development and investment.Firdowsa Mohamed, MSc Climate Change Finance and Investment
